How to Install Your byKron Overlay in OBS Studio
Bought a byKron pack and want it running on OBS Studio for your next stream? This guide takes you from the extracted files to a fully working overlay in under ten minutes. No advanced setup or extensions required — only OBS Studio itself.
The process has two essential parts: importing the Scene Collection, then relinking the media files OBS expects to find on your computer. Both parts are covered below.
Before you start. Extract your overlay pack ZIP to a permanent folder on your PC. Don't import directly from the ZIP, and avoid moving the folder afterwards — this guide depends on stable file paths.
Part 1 — Import the Scene Collection
Step 1. Open the Scene Collection menu and click Import
With OBS Studio open, navigate to the top menu bar and click Scene Collection. In the dropdown that appears, select the Import... option.
Step 2. Click Browse to locate your overlay file
The Scene Collection Importer window opens, but it's empty. Click the Browse... button at the bottom-left to start the selection process.
Step 3. Select the .json file inside your pack
A file browser opens. Navigate to your pack's folder, then enter Scene Collections › OBS. Select the .json file and click Open.
Step 4. Confirm by clicking Import
You're back to the Importer window, but now your overlay is listed with its source path. Click the Import button at the bottom-right of the window to add the collection to OBS.
Step 5. Switch to the imported Scene Collection
Importing the file doesn't activate it automatically — you need to switch to it manually. Open the Scene Collection menu again, scroll to the bottom of the list, and click your newly imported collection (typically named after the pack).
Part 2 — Relink the missing media files
Because the overlay was created on a different computer, OBS doesn't know where the actual video and image files live on your PC. The next step tells OBS where to find them.
Step 6. When the Missing Files dialog appears, click Search Folder
OBS automatically detects when sources can't find their files and opens the Missing Files dialog. You'll see a list of items marked as Missing.
- A. Click Search Folder... at the bottom of the dialog
-
B. In the folder picker, navigate to Scene Collections › OBS in your pack, select the WEBM folder, then click Select Folder
Step 7. Confirm with Apply
Back in the Missing Files dialog, the status of every row updates from Missing to Found. The bottom of the window confirms Found 8 of 8 (or however many files your pack uses). Click Apply to lock in the changes.
Step 8. Your overlay is ready to stream
OBS reloads the scene and your overlay renders in the preview canvas. You can now switch between scenes, adjust audio levels in the mixer, and configure transitions — your byKron pack is fully operational.
You're ready to go live
The hard part is done. Run a final pre-stream check before going public:
- Click each scene to confirm the visuals load correctly
- Check the audio mixer levels to make sure everything is at the right volume
- Verify Scene Transitions in the bottom-right panel
- Hit Start Streaming when everything looks right
Troubleshooting
The Missing Files dialog doesn't appear automatically.
Open it manually via Scene Collection › Verify Missing Files in the top menu.
Some files stay marked as Missing after Search Folder.
This usually means the WEBM folder structure was modified. Re-extract the original ZIP to a clean folder and run Search Folder again on that path.
I get "missing files" warnings every time I switch scenes.
This means the overlay folder was moved after the import. Either return it to its original location, or repeat Steps 6-7 to relink with the new path.
Can I use this pack in Streamlabs Desktop or Meld Studio?
Yes — byKron provides separate setup guides for both. Check our blog for the dedicated walkthroughs.
